Interior Restoration

A cigarette burn is an unattractive feature to live within your car's interior; however, professionals can repair them; in fact, you can fix it yourself if you find the correct method to suit your car's seats.

Whether you have purchased a second-hand or much older car model, or you've let a friend or family member borrow your car only for it to return with cigarette burns, it can be a real eyesore. Whilst the methods to fix it aren't so simple, they are still entirely doable.

The first tip we'd give you is that if you are serious about taking on this task properly, you'll want to remove the steering wheel, along with the seats. If at all possible, you may even find you have some more ease when removing the doors.

It is essential to be aware that when you are disassembling the car's instrument panel, consider the passenger-seat airbag and ensure it is efficiently working or that you don't obstruct it whilst working. There may be a repair manual for your car model pre-installed inside your car that you will want to closely follow to prevent any mistakes, especially when removing your dashboard.

After removing the dashboard, it takes more than a spot repair. It may require widening, sanding and filling the cracks. The entire dash must be professionally painted with numerous layers to enhance the colour and finish.

Firstly, you want to peel back the upholstery to loosen the seam of the panel. Then begin scrubbing the board underneath that upholstery using rubbing alcohol. Wipe it back with a soft, clean cloth and allow it to air dry.

Then ensure you tape off the panel area directly above the seam is; use a sturdy masking tape. You want to get yourself some nitrile gloves, a cotton swab and adhesive glue. Spray that adhesive glue into a cup. Dip one of your cotton swabs into the glue and slide it inside the seam. Ensure you reload the swab with glue every 3-4 inches till you have successfully filled in the seam.

Ensure you smooth the upholstery with a straight plastic edge, right up to the seam. Use a flathead screwdriver and push the remaining fabric into the seam. Slide the portion of upholstery adjacent to it upwards and repeat this process until you are finished.

You can do so in six easy steps:

  • Clean your vehicle
  • Mask off the surrounding areas you don't want to treat
  • De-grease the plastic trim
  • Apply the black dressing you wish to use
  • Apply any additional coats when required
  • Remove the masking

There are numerous car seat interiors you can find in care sales showrooms and accessory shops. They consist of nylon, vinyl, leather, faux leather, Alcantara, and polyester.

Yes, it is entirely possible to repair leather car seats. Repairs of classic car leather can bring your vehicle back to life and rejuvenate it completely.

Convertible Roof Replacement And Repair

Convertible tops are repairable; however, we encourage you to get your top professionally seen at an upholstery trim shop. Taking it to a professional engineer gives you the best chance of a clean, high-quality job done. If you find that the shop has experience sealing watertight stitches, they may be your best option. However, the cost of this service is extreme.

Clean the repair area with alcohol like isopropyl, and this will remove any body oils or dirt that could negatively impact the bond on the convertible top.

Trim any frayed edges with scissors. Apply some Tenacious Tape over any damaged areas. Ensure you round the corners of the tape and smooth out any bubbles.

On the other side of the repair, apply the Aquaseal FD adhesive included in the kit. Over the top of the damage, paint a thin layer that extends 1/2" in each direction. Finish with another piece of Tenacious Tape over top of this adhesive.

Give it at least 24 hours to cure.
